Sr. FinOps Practitioner - Job Description
Role Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical FinOps Practitioner to join our growing
team. In this role, you will be responsible for optimizing our cloud spending, driving cost
efficiency, and fostering a culture of financial accountability within our engineering and
product teams. You will work closely with stakeholders across various departments to
implement FinOps best practices and ensure we are maximizing the value of our cloud
investments.
Responsibilities:
Cloud Cost Optimization:
o Analyze cloud spending patterns and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
o Implement cost optimization strategies, such as rightsizing instances, utilizing
reserved instances, CUDs or savings plans, and leveraging spot instances.
o Develop and maintain cloud cost dashboards and reports to track key
performance indicators (KPIs).
o Continuously monitor and optimize cloud resource utilization.
Financial Governance:
o Establish and enforce cloud cost policies and procedures.
o Develop and manage cloud cost budgets and forecasts.
o Implement chargeback and showback models to promote cost awareness
and accountability.
o Ensure compliance with cloud cost management best practices.
Collaboration and Communication:
o Partner with engineering, product, and finance teams to drive cost
optimization initiatives.
o Communicate cloud cost insights and recommendations to stakeholders at all
levels.
o Provide training and education on FinOps best practices.
o Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to resolve cloud cost-related issues.
Tooling and Automation:
o Evaluate and implement cloud cost management tools and platforms.
o Handson experience on FinOps tools like Cloud health, Cloudability and
Cloud Native portal.
o Stay up to date with the latest FinOps tools and trends.
Forecasting and Budgeting:
o Create and maintain accurate cloud cost forecasts.
o Work with relevant teams to create budgets, and track spending against those
budgets.
o Provide variance analysis and recommendations for budget adjustments.
Qualifications:
Required:
o Overall, 10 Years of exp. out of that 5+ years of experience in cloud cost
management.
o Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
o Proven experience in cloud cost management and FinOps practices.
o Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
o Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Experience with cloud cost optimization tools (e.g. Cloudability, CloudHealth,
AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management & GCP Billing console).
Preferred:
o FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification.
o Engineer level certification of Cloud Platform (AWS, Azure & GCP).
