Role Overview: IMI plc is is seeking a talented and experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join our legal team in Bangalore, India. This role will be instrumental in providing legal counsel and support across multiple areas, including compliance, privacy, litigation management, and contract review. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Indian law, with expertise in navigating complex legal issues and managing legal risks
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Management
Develop, implement, and oversee compliance programs to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Conduct regular compliance assessments and audits to identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective measures.
Provide guidance and training to employees on compliance-related matters, including anti-corruption, anti-bribery, and competition laws.
Privacy Protection
Manage Data privacy and protection matters in compliance with Indian data protection laws (DPDPA) and other relevant regulations
Review and advise on data processing activities, privacy policies, data transfer agreements, and data breach response procedures. regular compliance assessments and audits to identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective measures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure privacy requirements are integrated into product development and marketing initiatives.
Litigation Management
Manage and oversee litigation matters, including disputes, claims, and regulatory investigations, in collaboration with external counsel when necessary.
Develop and implement strategies for resolving legal disputes efficiently while minimizing legal risks and costs.
Maintain accurate records of litigation proceedings and provide regular updates to senior management on case status and potential outcomes.
Contract Review and Management
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including sales contracts, procurement agreements, and service contracts.
Ensure that contracts comply with applicable laws and company policies, while also protecting the company's interests and mitigating risks.
Establish and maintain effective contract management processes to track key milestones, renewals, and obligations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized institution; admission to the State Bar Council required. 3-7 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on compliance, privacy, litigation management, and contract review in a corporate or law firm setting. Extensive knowledge of Indian legal and regulatory requirements related to compliance, privacy, and litigation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess legal risks and develop practical solutions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in fast-paced environment
