About the role:
Research & Development Scientist will lead and drive end-to-end research, development, and commercialization of APIs, specialty chemicals, and advanced excipients, with a strong focus on complex excipients, novel excipients, lipids, cyclodextrins, amino acids, and related functional materials.
Strategic leader with deep technical, regulatory, and scale-up expertise, experienced in developing and commercializing complex excipients such as lipids, cyclodextrins, and amino acids.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Define and execute the R&D strategy aligned with business goals and long-term growth plans.Identify new technology platforms and innovation opportunities in APIs, complex excipients, and specialty chemicals.Build a robust product pipeline focusing on differentiation, IP generation, and lifecycle management.
Research & Product Development
Lead development of novel and complex excipients, including lipid-based systems, cyclodextrin derivatives, amino acid-based excipients, and functional specialty chemicals.Oversee process development, optimization, and scale-up from lab to pilot and commercial scale.Guide polymorphism, impurity profiling, stability studies, and relevant characterization.Drive cost-effective, safe, and scalable synthetic routes.
Regulatory & Quality Interface
Ensure R&D activities comply with global regulatory guidelines.Support excipient regulatory documents for regulated markets.Collaborate with Quality Assurance on GMP compliance, audits, and technical documentation.
Technology Transfer & Manufacturing Support
Lead smooth technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing.Troubleshoot scale-up, validation, and commercial manufacturing issues.Work closely with production, engineering, and EHS teams to ensure safe operations.
Innovation & Research Development
Protect innovation technologies and encourage a strong R&D culture.Monitor global technology trends and competitor activities.
Collaboration & Customer Engagement
Work with Business Development and Marketing teams to support customer-specific development projects. Represent the organization at scientific forums, conferences, and regulatory meetings.
Team Building & Talent Development
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary R&D team.Set clear goals, KPIs, and performance metrics for the R&D function.
Qualifications
PhD / Master's degree in
Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.15-20+ years of progressive R&D experience in APIs, specialty chemicals, or advanced excipients.
