    PRIMARY FUNCTION:


    At Target in India, our US Sales and Use Tax Team is part of the engine powering compliance with the many tax rules and regulations governing our business operations. This team works closely with their colleagues in the US to navigate the complex world of indirect tax laws, meticulously preparing filings, reports and payments that keep our business running efficiently.


    The Tax Analyst will be responsible for assisting on various aspects of the sales and use tax functions managed at Target In India. This role primarily supports the sales and use tax compliance process by preparing and filing accurate sales and use tax returns, handling payments, reconciling general ledger accounts state-wise, gathering documentation to support sales tax audits etc. This role will also focus on the below areas -


    Prepare accurate and timely sales and use tax workpapers to support tax returns and filings.Prepare state and local sales and use tax returns and other miscellaneous tax returns as required, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.File sales and use tax returns across multiple US jurisdictions, ensuring timely submission.Perform state-wise general ledger reconciliations for sales and use tax accounts.Support in filing responses to Sales / local tax authorities in relation to queries / clarifications on the returns filed, payments made, prepayment or filing thresholds, audit queries etcPrepare and manage Power of Attorney documents for tax-related matters by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to execute and maintain POA records.Gather and organize documentation required for sales and use tax audits.Maintain and update tax compliance calendars


    Working within Tax, your mission will be to drive value-added work and support our core retail business goals. Our tax team focuses on all aspects of tax reporting including enhancing productivity and efficiency of core compliance through process and technology, monitoring tax risk and opportunities across all tax disciplines, engaging and educating Finance and the broader organization regarding tax considerations, and prioritizing team resources to support key work streams.


    Requirements:


    2- 4 years of experience in sales and use tax preparation, compliance and accounting with an accounting firm or equivalent experience in a large corporate tax departmentBachelors or Masters degree or equivalent combination of professional education and experienceStrong knowledge of US state and local tax regulationsExperience with Vertex and SAP, or similar tax software and general ledger system, is strongly preferred.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining appropriate prioritization and ensuring adherence to deadlines.Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external authorities.Detail oriented, organized and efficient in work processes.Strong technical skills, ability to work within multiple systems, and high proficiency with Microsoft applications. Experience in using data and analytical tools including Alteryx and data visualization tools is preferred.

    About the Team Supply Chain Network Optimization (SCNO) is a global team and part of Integrated Operations Planning & Network steering within Global Supply Chain and Logistics. We are at the forefront of defining and enabling an efficient, reliable and best in class supply chain. This team uses a wide variety of engineering and advanced applied mathematical techniques (5Why's, ML, AI, OR, MILP, DES,) techniques to study and solve niche problems in supply chain across the entire value chain (Purchasing, transportation, Multi echelon inventory, last mile and process optimization) to enable the best guest experience and profitable growth for Target.


    About the Role

    As a Lead Operations Research Scientist in SCNO, you will tackle complex supply chain challenges, develop a deep understanding of problem complexity, and drive cutting-edge solutions. This role requires strong experience working with large data sets, advanced programming skills, and a solid foundation in statistics, probability theory, machine learning, AI, simulations, and operations research.


    You will be expected to work effectively on high-visibility problems that come with inherent risks,

    roadblocks, and constraints, while collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders. You will also be accountable for planning and delivering team projects, ensuring alignment across teams, and driving measurable impact.


    Key responsibilities include:

    Actively engaging with cross-functional stakeholders to understand and frame business

    problems.

    Building a deep understanding of problem complexity, addressing both breadth and depth.

    Finding, gathering, analyzing, and processing large data sets efficiently by developing robust and scalable programs.

    Developing and applying advanced operations research techniques, AI, and machine learning to solve business challenges.

    Running complex simulations, conducting scenario analyses, and employing optimization

    methods.

    Planning and developing project charters with clearly defined milestones and success metrics.

    Ensuring cross-functional alignment, removing blockers, and accelerating project delivery.

    Communicating insights effectively through clear and concise data storytelling to influence

    decision-making.

    About You

    8+ years of professional experience with a bachelor's or master's degree (5+ years for a PhD) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field.

    4+ years of experience with programming in Python, PySpark, R, SQL and open-source data science tools.

    4+ years of experience applying advanced data science and operations research techniques.

    Hands on experience with AI and machine learning, including working with large language models and modern ML frameworks.

    Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address business challenges creatively.

    Skilled in cleaning, transforming, and analyzing large datasets to generate insights.

    Passionate about continuous learning and empirical research, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

    Retail and supply chain experience is a plus.

    Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively across locations and time zones.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.
